March 16th was a lovely, still chilly day so, we headed for Lossiemouth for the day. It feels like a long time since we last visited, I'd like to spend a couple of nights here, just to walk on the beach in the evenings / mornings, maybe get to see a few folk?
We parked at the old station car park and walked along the front.
I do remember it being fabulous having two beaches and woodland to explore and play in when we were young. The two beaches were very different, the East beach also having the river Lossie flowing round it.
I can remember how cold that water can be, no wonder those guys are in full suits and hoods!
I always like walking along the river bank, there used to be an old wooden boardwalk here, part of the old harbour but, you never know what you might see in the river.
There were the usual gulls around, a couple of Turnstone foraging about and a Rock Pipit, keeping an eye on me.
It was a lovely sunny day with a very cold wind blowing so it was good to see plenty folk out on the beach walking.
We walked from the station car park, along the front to the new bridge, I still remember the old wooden harbour walkway there, you could climb under and work your way along underneath........ all gone, filled in with concrete but still a nice walk. I still can't get over the bridge being removed, sad.
I'd intended stitching these two shots together, didn't work out that way :)
We only did a loop around the first bank of dunes, pretty chilly wind blowing. There did used to be a lot more dunes right?
There's loads of wildlife around the beach, especially if you walk further up the river through Seatown.
The next stop for us though was lunch, we headed up to Twenty Nineteen for something to eat, hadn't booked but we got a table.
Down to the West beach to walk off lunch. I find this beach very different now.
This is one of the best places to get shots of Sanderling for me. I didn't today :)
These wee plover are gorgeous wee birds and this one wasn't too bothered by us walking by. Again it was a pretty chilly wind blowing so we headed back to the car sharpish and back to Ardersier.
